Moving To Niagara – Home Away From T.O.

If you live in Niagara, this won’t be news to you.

If you’re not from Niagara, you may find this interesting.

The National Post recently published an article on the rapidly increasing migration of Toronto natives to the  St. Catharines-Niagara region. Whether it’s retirees or working professionals, many people are getting tired of the hustle and bustle of big city life with the added inconvenience of extreme cost of living. There are many factors contributing to this growing trend, but the biggest of these has to be: cost.

As Toronto continues to increase in real estate costs, fees, and taxes areas just outside of it are becoming more and more attractive. The reason the Niagara Region – which spans from Stoney Creek and Grimsby to Niagara Falls and Fort Erie – is such a desirable destination is the level of quality, size of a home, and many different locations you can get for such a good price. Those homes range from single dwellings, to condos, to rental properties.

To Do

Going hand in hand with the caliber of dwellings is the rapidly increasing level of infrastructure that’s being developed. In the last 3 years St. Catharines alone has built a 520,000 square foot $200M open air outlet mall, a $50M sports & concert arena, and $26M performing arts centre in conjunction with Brock University. Just to name a few. Other cities like Niagara Falls are also doing their part to make the Niagara Region one of the most desirable locations to live in Southern Ontario.

Location

In case you needed more reason to move south of the six, there’s the famous adage “location location location”. Niagara is a geographic goldmine. With plans for completed Go Train service coming right into St. Catharines & Niagara Falls less than 5 years away, the ability to get to Toronto quickly without even needing a vehicle will be here before you know it. For those still working in the big city, the commute is very manageable in your own vehicle, as HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes guiding you right from the Hamilton area into the Greater Toronto Area.

Easy access to multiple tourist attractions including historic Niagara-On-The-Lake and the Shaw Festival Theatre, the world famous Niagara Falls, and Canada’s greatest wine country ensure you and your friends visiting from T.O. won’t run out of things to do.

Plus you’ll also have easy access to multiple border crossings which makes everything from planning family trips, to catching an NFL game, to simple shopping or grocery trips in the U.S.A. a breeze.
