Frequently Asked Questions

“Where to start on a new kitchen”

Starting a new kitchen project can be a very overwhelming experience, and it can be difficult to know where the best place to start is.

Here are some helpful answers to questions many people ask when they are starting a new kitchen renovation.

When should I start designing/planning my new kitchen?

Some people will come in wanting to start designing their new kitchen after they’ve already ripped out their existing one. Unfortunately, the designing, selection, manufacturing, and installation process takes weeks to complete, which means you will be without a place to prepare food while that happens. We recommend starting the conversation about your new kitchen before you do anything to your current one. Those conversations may lead to changing other things about the room, such as wall locations, plumbing, electrical and so on.

I’m not sure what style I like. Where can I get ideas or inspiration?

We always tell people when they are starting off, to look around and get lots of ideas of what they do AND don’t like. That way when you are ready to sit down and start designing your space, you can make it suit you perfectly.

There are many resources available to you to see examples of all different styles. The easiest is to think about places you’ve been that had elements you liked or didn’t like (such as friends or family members’ homes).

Traditionally the only media form that was available was printed magazines or what you saw on television. But with the explosion of the internet and social media, there have been numerous sites created just for this purpose that offer endless examples for you to peruse.

badge96_96One website (as well as iOS & Android app) that has become very popular in the residential design world is Houzz. This site is dedicated to showing off inspirational, “cream of the crop” pictures, both inside and outside of the home. You could spend all day swiping through pictures without seeing the same one twice. We highly recommend it as a place to save the ideas you like, and bring them in to help when designing your own space.

You can check out Enns Cabinetry on both Pinterest and Houzz.

Do You Do Counters?

While we don’t manufacture counters ourselves, we are able to take care of your counters for you. Certain materials like Quartz (a man-made solid surface) and laminate, we have samples in our showroom, so you don’t have to go anywhere else to make selections. Other solid surfaces like granite & marble – which are naturally occurring and therefore have a rotating stock of colours and patterns available – would require you to select in person. We do work closely with a number of counter fabricators and can recommend a number of showrooms that offer a wide variety of slabs to view and select from.

Going through Enns to procure your counters gives you peace of mind knowing that we take care of the scheduling of the templating and installation, as well as if any issues should arise that the counter fabricator has we are able to work with them to come up with a quality, efficient solution quickly. Of course you are free to get your counters on your own. This will leave the task of getting quotes, selecting your slab, as well as communicating, coordinating, and scheduling with the counter company to you.
